experimenting with a cleaner, more vectored style?

me likes. just think you need to experiment more with object placement to find that right balance.

i was about four months ago eski, but i never got around to finishing any of the designs, so i thought i'd have a go at finishing them:) Which is proving harder than starting new ones, i've actually gone a lot more fluid, hand drawn, and sketchier again...

i guess it'll be just like always, my subs will vary every time in content and style... hopefully i can just get better:)

this is totally cool. i think most pieces of the design have a high level of detail, maybe add in a small element of detail into the shape of the sun? it wouldn't have to be much.....its really interesting as is..

yeah i see your point but there is so much going on i ma looking to maintain space for the eyes to rest:)

hahaha okay, i totally thought that (mummy?) was a dildo. perhaps there is a different shape? for instance, instead of the shape of the tomb, the shape of a person.

i don't know what is going on here, but in a good way.

i do get the pyramids and god(s), but not all of the elements together.

it's just a scene chelly... if you look out on the street you wouldn't necessarily see a scene with one clever purpose... this is just a street with more unusual things happening

thats true i guess there is a lot going on

If you look out on the street, you don't submit what you see as a t-shirt design. You're in critiques. People will critique your design.

yes yes and i'm giving my perspective, i have no problem with what chelly said, it's just that there is not necessarily any prodigious meaning necessary for a design to be good, and it's not your usual street scene, it was simply a meatphor

There needs to be some meaning. If there is no meaning, the artwork better be bloody good (see oceanic fashion).

There also needs to be unity between the elements, no matter what kind of shirt it is. I challenge you to find a printed design with no unity.

whatarebirds ... i think there is unity, the artwork has a theme and is of a good standard... but i don't feel it is complete hence posting this here

as you stated this is a critique section, please feel free to help out on the design if you can think of anything that would help improve it, if this is not the style of art that you like than that's fine, and by the shirts you are wearing in your product pics it's most likley not... pardon me but food with faces have little artistic merit and 99 boring vector balloons hardly express a profound meaning or incredible artistic talent so stop waffling on about pointless shit and say something useful

i think the design has obvious unity in the style and content. when i looked at it, it immediately read as a conglomeration of ancient religion, with an emphasis on the aztecs. and the drawing skills are superb throughout. i think this is unity enough.

as far as 'meaning in artwork' is concerned--i think that in a complex piece, such as this, it is entirely too subjective to really squabble about.....be content to draw your own conclusions, or draw your own design

congrats on your last score by the way, it was great and a fantastic chance for a print:)

There's a lot of great visual layering. Conceptually it irks me a little bit, there's a lot of loaded imagery going on but it's not assembled in a way that seems very directed to me. The scorpion commands most of the attention of the design, but I have no idea what the point of the scorpion is. Why is it there? What do Incans know about scorpions? And so on… It seems to me that you could say a lot with what you have, but you don't take that risk. To use the tired Art Director rolodex response:

I think you need to push it some more.

I don't know why, but the star on the scorpion seems really out of place.
