Hello, this is my first ever sub to Threadless - I couldn't pass up an opportunity to be in the TATE.



I've covered a few POP art inspirations : the skull (Hirst), halftones (Warhol and Lichtenstein) and plenty of colour too. I've been experimenting with some triangles and/or wireframes but wanted to get some feedback as it currently is.



So - let's here it chaps and lassies - be cruel be kind be whatever.

I'm not sure what it's missing, but I like it. I think you need to work on the skull maybe.

what's the idea behind it? Maybe a story would tie it together. It's a little on the plain side as it stands.

I think it looks a bit flat. Try to make it more 3D.

I like the idea of the polygon crystal skull. would be cool if you could make it look more detailed/ 3d as BitGie said.

I like what you are doing. I actually think it would look better with just the halftone portion of the skull, although if you provide more detail to the crystal that may help it.

first let me state that I'm automatically going to like anything that includes lots of triangles and a skull so I like this idea a lot. I'm totally in agreement with everybody else. try expanding the skull into more of the crystal right now. the crystal right now is dominating everything else when the skull should be a much bigger part of your fear of death concept

I'd make the skull pop out a bit more, but it's definitely a good start. I also love the space junk in the back, so maybe make the crystal a little more transparent.

it looks too complicated for my eyes. Maybe you can apply those halftones to each of the wireframe faces to give it a dimension. Background makes things harder to read.

maybe add a hood so it looks kind of like the grim reaper? Looks cool though. I'd wear it!

The background is back but in black ink. Also tweaked colours a bit to help add depth.

Good piece. You really use halftones well. One thing though: I wouldn't bother with the black in the background. Doesn't seem to add much.

You've taken this to a very different direction in 1 day, which is good, however, I think you need to ditch either the polygons or the skull because it's just not cohesive enough. Either that or mess with it until it works for you.

I have to agree, the polygons fight with your half-tones. Either find a way to tie them up, or just use one or the other.

shapes are good.. i think for it to be pop you gotta add some more bold colors into it.. maybe play around with some cmyk combinations..

The flashes are there to highlight the foil elements. Do you guys think that's clear ? Or will people think I want them on the print ?

I think you should take out the flashes. That's a sick design though! Great work, I've always wanted to know how to do that halftone stuff.

I think people will think you want them in the print. maybe make them very small and subtle to indicate sparkle in the foil. This has come a long way!!! I like :)

I'm with A Morrell: the skull & wireframe are really strong and I don't think the black galaxy is adding anything to the image. The death aspect of it is fairly obvious, the viewer's going to get that. But there's really no chance they're going to start pondering the origins of existence and it's relation to the stars, even with the galaxy there. This has gotten way better as you've simplified it and I don't think stripping away that last extraneous element's going to hurt at all.

Okay - the galaxy has left the background, which means one less colour to print. I've added black as an option on the tee colour.

I had no idea there was a pop challenge. I am still relatively new to this site. But thanks for the comment.



I think a green, purple, pink color combo may work better. But that is just me.

I'd say it looks even better on black.

I agree with the above. orr maybe have more black outlining in the print to elevate it. I am thinking about entering the Pop life thing too!

UPDATE



I've created a new colour palette - I need you guys to tell me which is better. The black tee version is obviously more 'POP', but I do love the subtle palette of the charcoal version.

Looks awesome, through the stages you've been through this has definately improved.

I also like the palette of the charcoal version. Sub it.

i like the right one better as it's more colorful and thereby pop-ish than the left one ;)

i think although this is very well done and looks really cool imo this might have a hard time scoring since people don't seem to appreciate skull designs very much...

I prefer the dark grey version with less colours ^^ but I think the 2 are cool and wereable :P good luck with the contest!

I like a lot, but I think would be better if you close the wireframe about the skeleton. Sorry for my english :S

Subtle version. Infinitely stronger. Feels much more crystal-like and it's much more sophisticated. The bright version is starting to creep into the realm of a t-shirt you could find at a children's educational toy store or a museum merchandise shop. If you want to do brighter colours, I wouldn't stray too far away from that nice "warm in the lights, cool in the darks" relationship that you have in the original. Keep it to two colours and variations of those two.

As far as the pop contest goes, I like the black one, it's more pop. I just think the colors are almost too bright, so maybe lighten them just a little more and then I'd say submit.
