UPDATE! Since it took me far too long to get a proper picture up, I've decided to extend the contest until this Friday (Oct. 17). If you missed it earlier, now's your chance!

So for the past... oh, jeez, over a year... I've been working on a quilt. (Off and on, of course.) A bunch of awesome Threadless people donated tees (see the original blog here) and I got to work!

So now I've got this quilt that's (practically) finished and you could win it!

Threadless quilt - almost done!
It's about 80" x 80" of cuddly goodness - definitely large enough for a queen-sized bed, but also lightweight enough to wrap yourself in on the couch.

I want it to go to a Threadless fan, so here's the main part:

- WRITE an original short story, essay, or poem somehow relating to Threadless tees or designs (1000 words max - though it doesn't have to be even that long!)

But to be eligible, you also need to do the following 2 things:

- SUBMIT at least one (1) ELIGIBLE ENTRY to the CALENDAR CONTEST - this entry must be taken especially for the contest (that is, since the contest was announced) and it has to meet all the criteria for the contest. And hey, if you've already submitted an original photo for the contest, you've got this one covered! You don't have to win the calendar contest to be eligible for this, you just need to enter an eligible photo or illustration.

- JOIN the Threadless Product Shots group on Flickr and upload at least one product shot. Like above, if you've already joined and submitted a photo, you're golden on this one.

To enter, email your story/essay/poem to me (ladykat81 [at] gmail [dot] com) by Monday, Oct. 13 Friday, Oct. 17 at 11:59 PST. Also let me know which picture you submitted to the calendar contest and your Flickr username. One entry per person.

The top 1/3 (33% - with a maximum of 10 total) among the stories/essays/poems (from eligible entries) will be entered into a drawing. From that drawing, one winner will be selected to receive the quilt!

Ask me if you have questions. :-)

ladykat on Sep 29 '08 at 8:49pm
Yup, it's a lot of criteria. But pretty much anyone should be able to enter and potentially win. This quilt consists of 49 Threadless tees & a lot of work, I want it to go to someone who really wants it!

Also, I will take a picture of the quilt so far tomorrow. It's hard to take one by myself, and I was running around today.

hehe yeah, I agree with the reasoning and didn't mean to be complaining, just marveling at how it's all official-like.
ladykat
ladykat on Sep 29 '08 at 9:00pm
Haha, I was just trying to be clear... and yeah, make people work for it.

If only one person enters, as long as that person cares, I'll be happy to give him/her the quilt.

Btw, I plan on bumping this a lot 'cause this is one contest that won't have an extended deadline. As long as there's at least one entry it's on!

bhoomika
bhoomika on Sep 29 '08 at 10:27pm
Jeb.. is it the writing ? cause I M worried about that.. I think the submitting the pics is no problem. But I am still gonna give it a try.

ladykat
ladykat on Sep 29 '08 at 10:59pm
Why can't you take a photo? It doesn't have to be of you in either condition... it could be the invisible model, if you could rig it! Srsly!

With the writing, I just wanna see that people care, and I'll pick the top ones that stand out to me. Then those finalists will go into a drawing ('cause I know that no way will I be able to choose just one).

Awesome Threadless Quilt!

ladykat
ladykat on Sep 29 '08 at 11:04pm
Oh, awesome!

I have to say, though, that the auction for charity thing went by the wayside because I really wanted any Threadless fan to have a shot at winning the quilt, which would have meant a raffle rather than an auction, but there's no easy way to do a legit raffle online. There are all sorts of weird state laws with raffles, it's totally annoying. I ended deciding that my priority was having someone who cared win the quilt.

Haha, who knows when I'll finish the 2nd quilt anyway!

lol @ Todow
ladykat
ladykat on Sep 29 '08 at 11:23pm
No... I must admit I was planning on keeping the second one. Originally I was just doing it as a fun project, and had set aside some tees I liked but didn't wear so much, but then when I got so many tees I realized I wanted to make two, one that I could somehow giveaway. I wanted to do a raffle for charity, but as I said, that just wasn't working out.

I started with the quilt that I was going to give away because I know my tendencies to procrastinate and get distracted by other projects... I wanted to make sure I'd finish the one to give away!

So the other one, I haven't even begun it. The squares are cut out, but that's it.

iCoty on Sep 29 '08 at 11:25pm
Ah, gotcha! Well, you did put tons of hardwork into the first one! You deserve the other! :)

i really should enter that.. i haven't written a story in forever but I guess i will come up with something..

the calendar photo thing might be a problem, because i suck at taking pictures of people.. but i hope i can come up with something.. it's getting cold and quilts help with that sort of thing :D
chelly
chelly on Sep 30 '08 at 9:19am
cool that it is going to a threadless person. i'd have done it more as a raffle, but YOU did all the work so you get to decide. someone is super duper lucky!
ladykat
ladykat on Sep 30 '08 at 1:53pm
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, Trindli! And for the calendar photo, again, it doesn't have to be a winning photo, it just has to meet the criteria. Also, the model doesn't necessarily have to be a person!
ladykat
ladykat on Sep 30 '08 at 1:55pm
Chelly - ultimately there will be something of a raffle with the finalists, my main point in having the contest stuff is to have people that care enough to work for it. :-)
chelly
chelly on Sep 30 '08 at 4:23pm
cool cool. i'm just too lazy for reading all the responses and trying to gage who put more passion in theirs. that's why i'd go full-blown raffle. really though, this comment is just a bump.
ladykat
ladykat on Sep 30 '08 at 5:14pm
Yay for bumps!

I guess you're right though, it'll take a lot longer... could be a good procrastinatory mesasure, though. ;-)

perfect. you should write a letter to the authorities expressing this thought.

Or I could make fifty fake accounts and have all of them enter and DOS Kate's email so she gets no entries but mine and then when I win you could have the quilt.

Cool?

Yo, Ladykat wassssup!? you'd be in a musical movie that takes place in dystopian America, the communists have won, so now everyone always has to walk around in gray jumpsuits. But not you, you want to introduce color to the world, that's why this movie is called "Rainbowstime", your name is Reign Boh, half vietnamese, half black, half West Virginian, half vegetarian, so basically you're like the most beautiful and exotic combination of races. You discover a delicious and beautiful watermelon growing in the basement of your house, and you've never seen color like this before, and it amazes you, so you use the watermelon's water colors to paint a picture of some shit, and then you show it to your grandpa who's cool as shit, unlike your folks who are all retarded and strict, and then he tells you the glory of color, so you go on a journey to find color, abandoning your parents and your simple life as a pencil sharpener. Eventually you form a militia of color that defeats the commie armies of evil with the power of friendship and goodness and lasers.

That's right!
