Download presentation templates
You will only need to submit a low resolution version of your design using our presentation templates. Be sure to keep your high resolution version of the design somewhere in case your design is picked!
Create your design
Design your illustration in a vector art program such as Adobe Illustrator®. Or, design in a raster program such as Adobe Photoshop®. If you are designing in a raster program, make sure you design actual size at at least 150dpi. When you are done, transfer your design to a template. Save off a copy of your design as a gif, jpg or png. If you are also creating an optional flash presentation file, publish your file so that you have a swf of your design. Keep in mind, the file you submit is for presentation purposes for scoring. If your design is selected we will ask you for high resolution artwork.
Submit your design
You will need to create a gif thumbnail of your submission. The thumbnail must be 100 x 70 pixels and under 10kb. When you have the files ready, and know what you want the title of your design to be, fill out the form to the right to send us your submission.
- Note: scoring can finish early
- Your design will be scored over a period of seven days. However, if your design receives a low score within the first 24 hours, it can be dropped from the running early. More info can be found in our FAQ.
What if my design gets declined?
For a full list of decline reasons, please refer to the Decline reasons PDF. Here are a few common reasons:
- Needs Work
- We want every design submitted to Threadless to have the best possible chance at being chosen for print. Your submission was declined because we feel your idea could use a little more work to be up to the standard that will give it the best shot. We have a feature called "Critique" on Threadless.com that allows you to have your design critiqued before you submit it for approval. By using the "Critique" feature as a pre-submission tool, you can let the community help get your submission up to par. This will not guarantee your design will be accepted, but we hope this will help you improve your design! Check out the "Critique" feature.
- Copyright
- Your submission was declined because it contains copyrighted material. Pop-culture inspired designs sometimes have legal issues we would rather not flirt with. Unfortunately, this is the case with your artwork. Please see our parody information page.
- Not on template
- We require that your design is submitted on a template so we know the intended placement of the design and whether or not it's physically possible to print the design the way you envision it. You can use one of our templates which can be downloaded here. You can also draw your own product shape, or take photos of your friends!
